Pilanesberg National Park

More than 1,000 million years ago, a mountain higher than Kilimanjaro stood here. Then there were cycles of volcanic eruptions deep down, where magma cooled down before reaching the surface. This eventually caused the centre of the mountain to collapse, forming a crater in the centre, now known as the Mankwe Dam in the centre of the Pilanesberg National Park.

This is the setting of the 4th largest National Park in SA and has an excellent  100km of dirt road which gives you freedom to search for all of the big 5 incl. African Wild dog and cheetahs. Birdlife is abundant and very good value accommodation is available.
